Here we see Christopher’s interest in the streets themselves. Often these feel like technical challenges, where there is bundle of shapes and wonky buildings, or uneven cobbled floors, all luring Christophers sharp eye for composition and perspective to draw them accurately. Bringing these images together gives us the opportunity to see the themes within this subject. The stong diagonal composition where your eye is led down a narrow road, up some steps or along a riverside walkway. Each drawing has an open foreground with the gaze focussing into the ever-shrinking distance. One important observation to be made about these drawings is that these spaces are not populated (with the exception of one lone figure in a sketch from Paris).
