This site houses four sketchbooks by artist and teacher, Christopher Alexander (1926-1982).

Christopher Alexander was born in Margate in 1926. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1951 and shortly after began teaching at the Thanet School of Art (later known as Hilderstone College of Further Education) and then at the Canterbury College of Art in 1952, where he later became Senior Lecturer in Foundation Studies. He remained an influential and committed teacher at both institutions until his sudden passing in 1982 aged just 56 years old.

This archive has been initiated with a selection of his handmade sketchbooks dating from the 1940’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. Each sketchbook is available to view in its entirety below.
